Yearmake makes personalized hardcover books from the photos and videos you upload. This page explains, plainly, what happens to that content and your information once you send it to us.
1. What we collect
Photos and videos you upload to build your book.
Basic account information — your name, email, and your child's name and age/birthday.
Payment information, handled by our payment processor — we do not store your card details ourselves.
Contributor content — if you invite family or friends to submit photos, notes, or interview answers, we collect what they submit, tied to your book.
2. How we use AI
We use AI to help build your book: to sort and select photos, generate photo captions, identify recurring themes across your year, and pull quotes from your videos.
We do not allow any AI provider we use to train their models on your photos, videos, or your family's content. This applies to every AI system in our process, not just our own — where we use third-party AI services, our agreements with them prohibit using your content to train their models.
We do not use facial recognition to identify or track your child. We use face detection — technology that helps us find and group photos of your child within your own account — but we do not build any identifying profile of your child's face, and this data is never used outside of building your book.
3. Who sees your content
Access to your photos and videos is limited to:
The automated systems that build your book.
A small production team who reviews each book for quality and accuracy before it's sent to print.
No one outside of building and fulfilling your order has access to your files.
4. Third-party vendors
Building and printing your book requires working with a small number of vendors:
AI service providers, used to help sort, select, and caption content. Bound by agreement not to train on or retain your content beyond what's needed to process your order.
Our print production partner, who receives the final, approved book files to print and bind your book.
Our hosting and payment infrastructure providers, who store your files and process payment securely.
We do not sell your photos, videos, or personal information to anyone, for any reason.
5. How we protect your data
Only you can open your book. It's locked with a one-time code sent to your phone or email — so even if a link gets shared or found, no one else can get in.
Your photos are stored on secure, industry-standard infrastructure and are never publicly listed or searchable.
Your photos aren't left on the open internet. They're delivered only to you, through your verified login — not a public link a stranger could stumble onto.
We strip hidden location data from every photo. Phone photos often carry GPS coordinates — frequently your home address. We remove that before your photos are ever stored.
Delete means delete. Remove a photo or close your account and we permanently erase it from our storage — not just hide it from view.
6. How long we keep your content
You can permanently and completely delete your photos and your account at any time — see Section 9.
7. Family and contributor uploads
If you invite grandparents or other family members to contribute photos, notes, or interview answers, the same protections in this policy apply to what they submit. You control what's included in the final book — contributor submissions are reviewed by you before they're added.
8. Marketing use
We will never use your child's photo in our marketing, advertising, or social media without asking you first, separately and explicitly. Uploading your photos to build your book does not give us permission to use them anywhere else.
9. Your rights and choices
You can, at any time:
Delete individual photos or videos from your account, which will be deleted permanently and irreversibly after 30 days.
Permanently delete your entire account, which removes all of your content permanently and irreversibly from our systems immediately.
To do any of this, contact us at help@yearmake.com or use the account settings in your dashboard.
10. Children's privacy
Yearmake's books are built from photos of children, uploaded by a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect information directly from children, and we do not allow children to create accounts. A child's data on Yearmake exists only because a parent or guardian chose to upload it, and that parent or guardian can permanently delete it at any time, for any reason.
11. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll notify account holders by email before the changes take effect.
